Support The Arts : The Philadelphia Project by Michael Penn

The “Philadelphia Project” is a three year long photographic journey through the streets of Philadelphia with a goal of 1000 photographs that will end with an exhibition to showcase the project. The project is now almost at the half-way point and the daunting task of printing the photos and scouting venues all while continuing taking photographs have started to become a reality.

It’s funny to read how others think Madonna’s new fragrance smells, and what images are conjured up by the scent. 

Earlier in the year, I was excited to dive into jQuery, CSS3 and HTML5. 

I was thrilled to break out of FLASH shackles, even though I’m pretty comfortable using it. It was that comfort, I think, that was driving me to try something new.

I now find myself so caught up in making things happen using jQuery that the creativity and graphics are now suffering. This is ridiculous. And all because the iPad doesn’t have Flash. 

So you can imagine my comfort in realizing that I was, apparently, not the only one going through this.

My HOW Magazine 2012 International & Interactive Design Award edition arrived yesterday and it seems that creativity and originality is on the verge of becoming extinct. 

Clearly, HOW had to give the awards to someone, and I imagine that these were the best from the entries. That frightens me.

Don’t bother picking up the magazine. You will be uninspired, confused, angry and compelled to consider life/career choice Plan B. 

Then again, even as I write this, I find my anger turning into “I NEED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE” style determination.

I’m making my list of WHAT I need to do as soon as I publish this post.

So, maybe you should pick up HOW magazine, or head to your nearest B&N and finger through it. You may get the same spark I just got. If you don’t get that spark, then let me suggest blogging about your frustration and maybe then you’ll get hit with it.

Michael Penn’s photograph, taken during last years International Festival on the Avenue of The Arts: THEME PARIS… has been chosen for the cover of a Polish Photography magazine: FOTO. This acrobat was captured “leaping” over a statue of Michael’s Great great great great great great (maybe one more) Grandpop, William Penn high atop City Hall. Pretty cool, huh?
